Tata Harrier EV will rival Mahindra XUV700 EV; launch by late 2024 in India

At Tata Motors’ latest investor day presentation, the brand has confirmed that FY2025 will see the launch of two EVs. We’ve reported on the Curvv EV arriving this festive season, and now, the Indian brand has confirmed that the Harrier EV will also arrive in the current financial year, which will end in March 2025.

  1. Tata Harrier EV to use Punch EV’s Acti.EV architecture
  2. Expected to get 60kWh battery with up to 500km of range
  3. Will get dual-motor set-up and all-wheel drive system

Like the upcoming Curvv EV and the already on sale Punch EV, Tata’s flagship electric SUV will use the brand’s Acti.EV architecture. While the EV is based on the same Land Rover-derived Omega platform used by the ICE-powered Harrier, it has been heavily re-engineered to support an electric powertrain. We expect the Harrier EV to feature a flat floor on the inside, and Tata has mentioned it’ll have vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging capacities.

There’s no word yet on the battery capacity or the Harrier EV’s range, but we expect the all-electric SUV to sport a 60kWh battery pack that will deliver about 500km of range on a single charge. We do know that the Harrier EV will sport an electric motor on each axle, giving the SUV an all-wheel drive set-up.

Other details about the Harrier EV that are known include its design. The SUV concept showcased at Auto Expo 2023 was a close-to-production model, which means most of what we’ve seen – from the closed off grille area and new front and rear bumpers to the coupe-like roofline – will be on offer. Interior details, however, are scarce on the ground. Still, we expect most bits to be shared with the Harrier and Safari, along with some highlights from Tata’s current range of EVs.

When it arrives, the Harrier EV is likely to have a direct rival in the form of Mahindra’s XUV700-based XUV.e8, which is expected to join the fray before the end of this year. Harrier EV and Mahindra XUV.e8 prices are expected to start above Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom.
