Altroz Racer to get more powerful 120hp turbo-petrol engine and additional features.

Ahead of its launch next month, Tata Motors has sent out a teaser for its upcoming Altroz Racer. This sportier version of Tata’s premium hatchback will get a more powerful engine, a unique exterior finish, and more equipment than the standard Altroz.

  1. To sport dual-tone theme, racing stripes, and more creature comforts
  2. Tata Altroz Racer to get 120hp turbo-petrol engine
  3. Likely to get 6-speed manual gearbox only

The teaser for the Tata Altroz Racer confirms the model will have a unique orange and black dual-tone exterior finish – all three pillars get the black trim, unlike the standard dual-tone models that just have a contrasting roof colour on the roof, the ORVMs and the window line. However, the 16-inch alloys are shared with the standard model. Spy shots had revealed that the Altroz Racer will get white racing stripes on the bonnet, like the model showcased at the 2024 Bharat Mobility expo. The model is also expected with ‘Racer’ badges and a slightly revised grille.

On the inside, the Altroz Racer is expected to get cosmetic changes that reflect the sportier exterior, such as highlights on the dashboard and new seat upholstery. Tata is also expected to equip the Racer with more features than the standard Altroz – a new 10.25-inch touchscreen, segment-first ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, a heads-up display and a voice-assisted sunroof are expected to be on offer.

Unlike the standard Altroz iTurbo, which is powered by a 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, the Racer will have the Nexon’s 120hp, 1.2-litre unit, making it 10hp and 30Nm more powerful, and able to directly take on the Hyundai i20 N Line, with its 120hp, 172Nm, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Tata is expected to offer the Racer in just 6-speed manual form.

Expect Altroz Racer prices to be higher than the iTurbo’s price range of Rs 9.2 lakh-10.1 lakh, putting it, again, in direct contention with the i20 N Line, which is currently priced between Rs 10 lakh-11.42 lakh for the manual variants, and Rs 11.15 lakh-12.52 lakh for the automatic trims. The Maruti Fronx (Rs 9.73- lakh-12.86 lakh) and Toyota Taisor (Rs 10.56 lakh-12.88 lakh) with the 100hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines will also rival the Altroz Racer on price and power.
