SW Car Supermarket has become the latest car retailer to celebrate a record sales week after reopening its showroom doors following COVID-19 ‘Lockdown 3’.
The Peterborough-based car supermaket operation said it achieved 215 car sales in the first week of physical car sales since the easing of COVID-19 ‘Lockdown 3’, when it was selling around 80 cars a week on average during lockdown.
The dealer said the performance had provided a “much needed boost” for the SW Car Supermarket team.
SW Car Supermarkets chief executive Anton Khan – previously the subject of a dealer profile feature for AM – said: “To give it some perspective, we were selling around 80 cars a week on average during lockdown.
“It makes it more rewarding to enjoy a bumper week of sales since reopening, when 215 cars left the forecourt. It’s been a great motivator for the team and there’s been a real buzz in the showroom again – it’s made all those tough weeks’ worth it.”
Available Car also delivered an all-time record week of sales after reopening its four used car supermarket sites.
The retailer said there is still demand for its click and collect and home delivery services and will continue to roll these out for the foreseeable.
The dealership has recently expanded its offering by stocking commercial vehicles.
Earlier in the year, SW announced the acquisition of two new sites in Peterborough and was poised to embrace a “wholesale approach” to used car retail in 2021.
A new distribution and handover centre is expected to be fully functional within the next six-eight weeks, according to SW.
At present, SW Car Supermarket and SW Car Superstore hold up to 2,000 used cars in group stock.
Khan said: “We’re eagerly anticipating the opening of our distribution centre and much-needed additional handover space.
“With it brings the opportunity to recruit extra members of staff too, so we’ll be looking to recruit locally within our catchment area of Peterborough.”
