One-fifth of these are India 2.0 models including Taigun, Kushaq, Slavia and Virtus.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has achieved a landmark production milestone of over 15 lakh made-in-India vehicles from its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The Group has also announced the production milestone of over 3.80 lakh locally-made engines as well as over 3 lakh units of the made-in-India 2.0 products.

Skoda, Volkswagen local manufacturing operations

The Volkswagen Group began its local operations in India in 2007 with the Skoda Fabia being the first locally made car to be rolled out of the Chakan facility. Since then, the Group has also produced now-discontinued nameplates like the Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Polo, Vento and Ameo.

Currently, it produces the India 2.0 products at the Chakan facility which includes the Kushaq, Taigun, Slavia and Virtus. Based on the MQB-A0-IN platform that was specifically made for India, the India 2.0 products themselves comprise over one-fifth of all models produced so far. The brand has also announced that over 30 percent of the production are exported to about 40 countries across the globe.

Skoda, Volkswagen local engine manufacturing

The Group began local engine manufacturing operations in 2015 with the 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine (serving the then Polo hatchback) being the first to be made here. With the Engine shop at the Chakan facility completing 10 years, it has now produced 3.80 lakh engines here in India. A 2.0-litre TDI diesel and 1.0-litre and 1.2 MPI petrol engines were also made here. Currently, of the three engines that Skoda-Volkswagen offer in India, the 1.0-litre TSI engine is produced here, while the 1.5-litre TSI and 2.0-litre TSI engine are imported.
