Romani boosts car scrapping budget

The Romanian government has increased the budget of its car scrapping schemes called Rabla Clasic and Rabla Plus (Car Wreck Classic and Car Wreck Plus – for e-vehicles) by RON200m (EUR40m) each, because the initial budgets set for this year have been spent.

Romania-insider.com, citing a News.ro report, said the initial budgets were RON375m and RON260m respectively and were increased slightly by RON5m and RON20m respectively last week.

Although it started only after a delay, the car replacement scheme was a much bigger success, at least compared to last year, not a surprise given the high buyer uncertainty prevailing during the Covid crisis.

Environment minister Tanczos Barna sais recently, in just two months, car replacement vouchers were allocated through the Rabla Plus programme to a value equal to all allocated last year under this programme.
