Porsche Taycan Turbo S sets new Nurburgring lap record

The electric sedan lapped the German track in 7min and 33sec.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S set a new record for production electric vehicles around the Nurburgring race track by rounding it in 7min 33sec. The previous record for production EV around the track was held by the more powerful Tesla Model S Plaid which achieved a time of 7 minutes 35 seconds in September 2021.

  • Porsche Taycan Turbo S was 2 secs quicker than Tesla Model S Plaid
  • Record-setting EV equipped with Porsche’s performance Pack

The record-setting Taycan was equipped with Porsche’s performance package, which is available through Porsche Tequipment – only in the German market at the moment – and has 21-inch alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, specifically designed for the track.

The performance pack also adds an updated dynamic chassis control system that, Porsche says, “analyses and synchronises all the chassis systems of the Taycan in real-time.” Despite the record-setting Taycan having fitted with a roll cage and racing seats, Porsche said that it weighed the same as the standard production car.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo had set the record for electric production cars in 2019, when it finished in 7min 42sec, before it was outpaced by the Model S Plaid two years later.

Sitting at the very top of the Taycan’s line-up, the Turbo S produces up to 761hp and 1,050Nm of torque. The Turbo S boasts of a two-speed gearbox that is mounted on the rear axle which has a short ratio for maximum acceleration from a standstill. Porsche sells the Taycan Turbo S priced at Rs 2.33 crore.
