Porsche India sold a Panamera every week this year

Despite the pandemic-induced slowdown, luxury carmakers have registered healthy sales numbers this year. Porsche India has released its official sales figures for the first quarter of calendar year 2021, showing a sale of 154 new vehicles – a 52 percent growth over the same period last year.

Porsche says this included an average sale of one Panamera every week to the end of March. Sales of its SUVs also grew by 38 percent, compared to the same quarter last year, while demand for its two-door sportscars, the 911, 718 Boxster and Cayman, also showed an increase of 26 percent. 

While this growth is indeed on a small base, it is nonetheless encouraging for the brand, given the general slow market conditions today. It also bodes well for Porsche’s planned expansion in India, which includes five new facilities across major cities in the next twelve months

The overall sales figures also make it Porsche India’s best quarterly sales performance in seven years. Speaking to Autocar India at the inauguration of the new Mumbai showroom Manolito Vujicic, brand head, Porsche India, said “We are very happy with our performance this year and I always say, it is due to the strength of our customers and the love for the brand. As, despite the hard times, our customers have managed to reach us, and for that we can only say thank you”.
