New Skoda Octavia: engine and gearbox

Moving to under the hood, unlike the previous-gen Octavia, the new fourth-gen sedan is available solely with a petrol engine. The unit in question is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol TSI unit that puts out 190hp and 320Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard, sending power to the front wheels. Skoda claims a fuel efficiency rating of 15.81kpl for the model. New Skoda Octavia: rivals

The executive sedan segment has shrunk in the past few years, and with the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic exiting the market, the Octavia has only one direct rival – the Hyundai Elantra. However, in terms of pricing, the Elantra is notably more affordable, with the Hyundai priced between Rs 17.85-21.12 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The carmaker is now gearing towards the launch of its all-new Kushaq midsize SUV. Skoda recently announced that it had commenced production of the Kushaq, with a launch expected soon. The carmaker is also expected to launch the petrol Kodiaq in India later this year, as well as debut its all-new midsize sedan that will replace the current Rapid.
