New Ford Mustang to be revealed on September 14 at Detroit Auto Show

The seventh-gen Mustang, which will debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month, will retain a manual gearbox.

Ford is all set to unveil the next-gen Mustang on September 14 at the upcoming 2022 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The all-new model of the iconic pony car is likely to be based on a new platform and will retain its manual gearbox.

Ford CEO Jim Farley confirmed the news via a tweet, but did not mention which manual gearbox it will get.

New Ford Mustang: expected design, interior

The all-new Mustang has been spied a few times now and the leaked images show that it will retain the iconic design of the muscle car. The upcoming Mustang, internally codenamed S650, will get a familiar headlight layout with tri-bar LED set-up, as well as the iconic Mustang pony badge on the grille, flanked by huge air intakes.

Going by the leaked images, the new Mustang could get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, plus a 13.2-inch infotainment display with minimal physical buttons in the centre console. 

New Ford Mustang: expected powertrain

Ford may introduce two hybrid powertrains with the new Mustang, coupled with the 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine and the famous 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine. Power output has not been revealed yet, but the outgoing V8 variant churns out 450hp and 556Nm of torque.

As mentioned, Ford is likely to retain the same six-speed manual and 10-speed automatic transmissions.

New Ford Mustang: India plans

Although it has been discontinued for a while, the Mustang could be one of the Ford models that could return to India as part of the brand’s proposed plan to keep things going here through CBU imports of select premium models. Given the timeline, it could be that the seventh-gen Mustang that returns.
