New entry-level BMW i4 offers German brand’s EV customers £8,000 saving

BMW has launched a new entry-level variant of its i4 GranCoupe electric vehicle (EV), offering buyers a potential saving of almost £8,000.

Prices for the new eDrive35 variant start from £49,995, with a sporty M Sport variant available from £51,495.

The eDrive35 is fitted with a 70.2kWh battery, giving a WLTP range of up to 299 miles, and can be charged at 180kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in 32 minutes.

Meanwhile, a rear-wheel-drive configuration helps the 286PS zero-emissions powertrain to propel the eDrive35 to 62mph in six seconds.

Steve Roberts, BMW UK’s general manager for corporate sales, said: “Following the huge success we have seen with the BMW i4 in the corporate and fleet markets since launch, we are very pleased to bring the eDrive35 model to the UK portfolio.

“This latest model to join the i4 range will make electric driving accessible to even more of our customers.”

AM attended the launch of the BMW i4 EV around 12 months ago.

Lining up alongside the iX SUV and i7 luxury saloon among the German premium brand’s 2022 new model launches, it reached UK roads in eDrive40 and M50 guises, both featuring a 83.9kWh battery.

The eDrive40 delivers 340PS to the rear wheels via a single electric motor and claims a range of 365 miles.

The i4 M50 uses two electric motors, giving all-wheel drive and 544PS, but serves up a shorter claimed range of 318 miles.

Also central to BMW’s range electrification strategy will be the iX1, which is reaching UK showrooms now.

The new BMW i4 eDrive35 is available to order now with first deliveries due in the summer.

Sport models come with 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, along with LED headlights, parking sensors and a reversing camera

Inside it features heated front seats and BMW iDrive 8 with a curved twin-screen infotainment display and connected services.

The M Sport variant adds M aerodynamic styling and wheels, plus Alcantara upholstery.
