New BMW X1 SUV India launch on January 28; engine options, trims, expected price

Bookings are already underway for a token amount of Rs 50,000.

BMW is all set to announce prices for the new X1 in India on January 28 at the next Joytown festival in Bangalore. We have already reported to you that bookings for the second-gen X1 are open at a dealer level for a token amount of Rs 50,000. Now, we have fresh details on the trims, powertrain options and features that will be offered on the BMW X1 in India.

  • New X1 to be available with both petrol and diesel engines

New BMW X1: powertrain options

The new BMW X1 will be offered with 1 petrol (sDrive 18i) and 1 diesel (sDrive 18d) engine in India – the petrol engine is a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder unit producing 136hp and 230Nm of torque while the diesel mill is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 150hp and 360Nm of torque. Both engines will come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, with power being sent to the rear wheels only.

BMW claims the petrol version can sprint from 0-100kph in 9.2 seconds while the diesel can do the same in 8.9 seconds. The petrol returns a fuel efficiency of 15.03kpl while the diesel returns 19.23 kpl.  

New BMW X1: trims and features

BMW will offer the X1 in two trims – Xline and M-Sport. Both trims will be available with both powertrain options.

In terms of features, the second-gen X1 features a curved infotainment display with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.70-inch infotainment screen, 12-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, ADAS features and parking assist feature. The Xline variants will come with Sports seats as standard, while the M Sport variants will additionally get massage function for the front seats.

Both trims will be offered with 18-inch alloy wheels, although the M Sport variants will get a sportier design.

New BMW X1: exterior and interior

The new BMW X1 gets a large, chrome-heavy kidney grille flanked by slim headlights with inverted L-shaped DRLs. In profile, it features chunky wheel arches and flush door handles, similar to the ones found in the new BMW 7 Series. In terms of dimensions, the new X1 is slightly larger than the outgoing model and is also longer than rivals like the Audi Q3. On the inside, it is significantly more upmarket than before. The cabin also offers more space for the rear-seat occupants and boasts of a large 500-litre boot. 

New BMW X1: competition check 

The new X1, when launched, will take on the other compact luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLA, the facelifted Volvo XC40, and the new Audi Q3. Expect the new X1 to be marginally pricier than before, with prices expected to be in the range of Rs 45 lakh-50 lakh.
