MV Agusta unveils Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro and 921 S cafe racer concept

The 921 S concept uses a brand-new Euro-5 compliant 921cc inline-four engine making 117hp and 116.5Nm of torque.

Italian company MV Agusta recently unveiled its 921 S concept bike featuring a brand-new inline-four engine. The design inspiration of this cafe racer concept bike has been drawn from the 750S sportbike of the early 1970s.

Its liquid-cooled, 921cc inline-four engine is Euro-5 compliant and is good for 117hp and 116.5Nm of torque. Alongside this, MV Agusta also showcased the brand-new Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro retro sportbike and it shares most of its underpinnings with the Brutale 1000 RR naked bike.

MV Agusta 921 S cafe racer concept: details

The 921 S concept has been designed to emulate the clean lines of sporty machines from the ‘70s while remaining a thoroughly modern machine underneath. Starting at the front, MV has placed the 4.5-inch touchscreen TFT dash on the tank rather than above the headlight, as is convention. The low, tapered handlebar itself is a single unit, not clip-ons that we usually see on a cafe racer. While we have seen many bikes sport a coloured chassis, this is one of the rare few to also feature a coloured swingarm (whether it will be carried to the production-spec bike remains to be seen). 

Coming to the mechanical side of things, MV Agusta has developed a brand-new inline-four engine for the 921 S concept. The liquid-cooled, 921cc four-cylinder mill is rated for 117hp and 116.5Nm. While these figures might not seem too impressive at first glance, the torque figure is exactly the same as the Brutale 1000 naked bike, hinting that this will be a more usable machine than other peaky, 200+ hp four-cylinder bikes from the Varese-based brand. As with nearly all MV Agusta machines, hardware is at a very high spec, with names such as Ohlins and Brembo providing the componentry. MV Agusta has plans to put it into production by mid-2024.

MV Agusta Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro: details

Much like the aforementioned 921 S concept bike, the MV Agusta Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro also draws inspiration from another MV of days past, its 1972 50cc GP race bike. That was the first racing machine to adopt the use of winglets and the Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro features them as well. Another design element that stands out are the four undertail exhaust pipes, much like the F4 superbike

Mechanicals on the Superveloce 1000 are borrowed from the MV Agusta Brutale 1000 RR naked bike and that’s no bad thing considering the 998cc inline-four engine makes 208hp at 13,000rpm and 116.5Nm of torque at 11,000rpm. A six-speed gearbox is on offer with a bi-directional quickshifter, although it features different mapping to the Brutale for more seamless operation. The entire suite of electronic rider aids, suspension and braking hardware, all have been borrowed from the Brutale 1000 RR as well.

As is the case with all Serie Oro bikes, the Superveloce 1000 will be a limited edition motorcycle and will feature a numbered top yoke, although the exact number hasn’t been revealed yet.
