MG Motors Service on Wheels initiative launched

The service has been introduced in Rajkot, Gujarat, and is operated using a mobile workshop.

MG Motor has announced a new service initiative called the MG Service on Wheels, to help its customers get basic repairs and maintenance done from their homes. The new service will operate using a mobile workshop which will be equipped with basic machinery required by the service personnel.

The MG Service on Wheels’ pilot programme has been introduced in Rajkot, Gujarat and has plans to introduce the service in other parts of the country. MG says its new initiative “will cover most service operations that are otherwise provided only in a workshop.”

The mobile workshop will come with a hydraulic scissor lift attached to a hydraulic power pack, air compressor, digital oil dispenser, waste oil collection tank and a pneumatic line with a filter-regulator-lubricator (FRL) unit. The workshop will also have a provision for spare parts, wheel balancer, electronic control box and a first-aid box.

Other brands like Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Hyundai and now-defunct Ford also offer similar services. These services help make car maintenance handy for the consumer as it reduces the hassle of visiting the service centres during weekdays and reduces customer load for service centres on the weekends. Furthermore, it can also help reduce the infrastructure requirements for service centres as most of the work can be done at the consumers house, thus helping them save on infrastructure costs.
