Mercedes E-Class, E-Class India launch details, 2024 E-Class LWB, Beijing motor show 2024

New E-Class LWB is expected to retain its predecessor’s turbo-petrol and diesel powertrains when it arrives in India.

The all-new Mercedes E-Class LWB has been showcased at the ongoing Beijing motor show 2024. The India debut of the new Mercedes E-Class will take place later this year. Mercedes sells the E-Class LWB in a few markets like China, with India being the only market getting the right-hand drive iteration of the sedan.

  1. New E-Class LWB is longer, wider than the outgoing model
  2. Gets Mercedes’ Superscreen setup like the EQS
  3. India launch planned for later this year

Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB: what’s different?

As compared to the outgoing E-Class LWB on sale in India, the new E-Class LWB has a 15mm longer wheelbase (3,094mm), is 20mm wider (1,880mm), and has grown 17mm in length (5,092mm). The E-Class LWB stands 1,493mm tall; 2mm shorter than its predecessor.

While the overall design is similar to the latest-gen standard wheelbase E-Class, it gets longer rear doors, which should make ingress and egress better for rear occupants. The rear quarter glass is positioned behind the rear door as opposed to being integrated into the rear door and rear window.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB: features on offer

The E-Class LWB for China gets the ‘Superscreen’ setup that integrates three screens positioned beneath a single glass panel on the dashboard. These include a 12.2-inch instrument cluster for the driver, a 14.4-inch screen for the main infotainment unit, as well as a third screen facing the front passenger. It is yet to be seen if the Mercedes Superscreen will be offered with the India-spec E-Class LWB considering a high percentage of E-Class buyers are chauffeur-driven.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB: powertrain options

While the Chinese market gets a six-cylinder petrol engine line-up for the E-Class LWB, Mercedes India is expected to retain the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel and 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel engine options seen on the outgoing model, with some updates. More details will be revealed as the India launch nears.
