New Swift prices start Rs 25,000 higher than the outgoing model; boasts of an ARAI-rated 25.75kpl efficiency figure in AMT form.
The fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift has launched in India, priced between Rs 6.49 lakh and Rs 9.65 lakh. Compared to the outgoing model, the new Swift gets an evolutionary design, a larger feature set, additional safety kit, and a more frugal 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. Prices for Maruti’s popular hatchback now start Rs 25,000 higher, and end Rs 37,000 higher.

New Maruti Swift: price starts higher than Nios, Tiago
Considering Tata Tiago prices and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios prices start at Rs 5.65 lakh and Rs 5.92 lakh, starting prices for the new Swift may seem to be on the higher side. In addition, the range-topping petrol-automatic versions of Tata and Hyundai’s small hatchbacks cost Rs 7.95 lakh and Rs 8.56 lakh, which is, again, lower than the new range-topping Swift variant.
New Maruti Swift: looks familiar
While the new Swift’s design language is the same as the outgoing model’s there are some obvious changes, such as the new front bumper, a redesigned radiator grille, and reshaped headlights and fog lights, along with conventionally placed rear door handles, new alloy wheel designs, and new tail-lamps with a C-shape pattern. In addition, although the new Swift’s wheelbase is the same 2,450mm as its predecessor, the new hatchback is 15mm longer, 40mm narrower and 30mm taller.
There are nine exterior colour options on offer including three dual-tone paints, and two new blue and red colours. Maruti is also offering Racing Roadster and Thrill Chaser accessory packages with the Swift. The former adds sporty cosmetic changes outside and in, while the latter adds what Maruti calls ‘energetic exterior and glamourous interior’ styling changes.
New Maruti Swift: seems comfier and better equipped
The new Swift’s interior is familiar to anyone who has spent time in the Baleno and Fronx, which is not a bad thing for the smaller hatch. It definitely looks more premium than the outgoing model’s cabin, and there’s a larger ‘floating’ 9-inch infotainment touchscreen that takes centre stage on the new textured dash. Naturally, the seats get new fabric upholstery across the range, restyled central air-con vents, new HVAC switchgear, and a slightly modified analogue instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch digital MID.
The top-spec Swift ZXI(O) will sport the aforementioned touchscreen, a wireless phone charger, rear AC vents, LED fog lamps, cruise control, auto climate control, push button start/stop, steering-mounted controls, a rear camera, and power adjustable and folding ORVMs. However, even the entry-level Swift LXI is decently equipped this time around. Along with standard safety kit such as six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, and ESC. Hill start assist is only on offer with the automatic variants.
New Maruti Swift: Among India’s most frugal hatchbacks
Thanks to the new Z12E engine that replaces the older K12 unit, the Swift is not only about 3kpl for frugal, but it ranks amongst India’s most fuel-efficient hatchbacks. The 24.8kpl-25.75kpl figures from the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine makes with new Swift more frugal than the 1.0-litre models like the Wagon R (24.35kpl-25.19kpl), Alto K10 (24.39kpl-24.9kpl), and S-Presso (24.12kpl-25.3kpl). However, Maruti’s Celerio (24.97kpl-26.68kpl), along with the Grand Vitara and Toyota’s Hyryder are more frugal still; the SUVs mentioned have the advantage of getting strong hybrid tech, while the Celerio has a smaller 1.0-litre petrol engine.
The new 1.2-litre Z Series engine comes with 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox options, and produces 82hp and 112Nm of peak torque. That’s actually a drop of 8hp and 1Nm over the outgoing Swift. Maruti also claims that the new Swift produces up to 12 percent less CO2 emissions.
