Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG launched: price, specs, variants and features

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG delivers 26.6km/kg; will rival Hyryder CNG that will launch soon.

Maruti Suzuki has announced prices for the Grand Vitara CNG that is available in mid-spec Delta and Zeta variants. Prices for the Grand Vitara CNG SUV start at Rs 12.84 lakh for the Delta while the Zeta costs Rs 14.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With the introduction of the CNG powertrain, the Grand Vitara becomes the first SUV in the midsize SUV segment to offer a factory fitted CNG kit.

Maruti Grand Vitara CNG:  powertrain, efficiency

The Maruti Grand Vitara CNG comes with a 1.5-liter K15 petrol engine which churns out 101hp and 136Nm of torque in petrol-only mode, but produces 88hp and 121.5Nm of torque in CNG mode. This means it delivers 13hp and 14.5kgm less than the petrol variant when run on CNG.  The sole gearbox on offer on the Grand Vitara CNG is a five-speed manual. Maruti says the Grand Vitara CNG which is the only CNG SUV in the segment currently, delivers 26.6km/kg in CNG mode. To put things into perspective, the Baleno CNG delivers 30.61km/kg.

As far as pricing goes, the Grand Vitara CNG costs Rs 12.85 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Delta variant and Rs 14.84 lakh for the Zeta.  The equivalent mild hybrid petrol option on the Grand Vitara costs Rs 11.90 lakh and Rs 13.89 lakh respectively, which is cheaper by around Rs 1 lakh when compared to the CNG option.  Maruti Suzuki says, the Grand Vitara CNG can also be subscribed via a fee starting from Rs. 30 723.  As mentioned above, there is no direct rival for the Grand Vitara CNG at the moment in the Indian market, however Toyota is gearing up to introduce a CNG-powered Hyryder SUV, which is built along side the Grand Vitara, soon.
