The Fronx is Maruti’s second model in the sub-4m SUV/crossover space.
Maruti Suzuki unveiled the new Baleno-based Fronx on January 12 at the Auto Expo 2023, and also opened bookings for the compact crossover on the same day. So far, Maruti has garnered about 5,500 bookings for the Fronx ahead of its launch in April this year. The Fronx will be retailed through Maruti’s Nexa chain of dealerships, and will be the carmaker’s second SUV/crossover in the sub-4m segment, the other being the Brezza that retails through the Arena dealerships.
- Bookings for the Fronx ongoing for a token amount of Rs 11,000
- Fronx gets 1.0 turbo-petrol and 1.2 petrol engines
- Has two automatics and one manual gearbox on offer
Maruti Suzuki Fronx: engine and gearbox options
The Fronx will be available with two engine options – there’s a new 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol Boosterjet engine as well as the familiar 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine, both offered with Maruti’s mild-hybrid tech. The former produces 100hp and 147.6Nm while the latter continues to produce 90hp and 113Nm.
The turbo-petrol engine is offered with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, while the NA petrol engine gets a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx: trims and variants
The Fronx will be available in five trims – Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta and Alpha. The 1.2 NA engine is offered on the first three trims – Sigma, Delta and Delta+. The manual gearbox is standard on all three trims, while the AMT gearbox can be had on the latter two. The 1.0 turbo engine will be offered on the Delta+, Zeta and Alpha trims, with manual being standard on all. However, the AT gearbox is available only on the Zeta and Alpha trims.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx: features
While the Fronx is sufficiently differentiated on the outside from the Baleno – the styling looks like a mix of the Grand Vitara and Baleno – its near identical on the inside. The equipment list is shared too, which means top-spec variants will get features like automatic LED headlamps with Daytime Running Lamps, 16-inch alloys, 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, wireless charger, head-up display, 360-degree camera, paddle shifters for the AT gearbox and 6 airbags.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx: expected price and rivals
Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx are expected to be in the range of Rs 8 lakh-11 lakh when it launches this April. Apart from the Brezza, the Fronx will rival the likes of other sub-4m SUVs like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
