Mahindra XUV300 EV will sit below the XUV400 EV SUV; will come with a 35kWh battery.
The heavily updated XUV300 SUV which is due next year will also get an EV powertrain, confirms our sister publication, Autocar Professional. The all-new XUV300 EV will have similar design updates as the XUV300 facelift but will have some EV-specific styling tweaks. The XUV400 EV which currently rivals the Nexon EV has been a slow seller. With the new XUV300 EV Mahindra aims to get a slice of the mass market EV SUV share that is currently being dominated by the Nexon EV.
- XUV300 will come with a 35kWh battery
- Will have fresh looks, more features
- Will be priced around Rs 2 lakh less than XUV400 EV
XUV300 EV will be positioned as Nexon EV rival
The XUV300 EV will benefit from all the major design updates that will be seen on the XUV300 facelift which means it will look much fresher than the XUV400 EV which looks similar to the pre-facelift XUV300 SUV.
As far as styling goes, the XUV300 EV will sport design cues seen on the Mahindra bE SUV line-up with the new-look drop-down LED daytime running lamp along with a completely redesigned bumper and headlamp assembly. It will also get the new two-part grille with a larger central air intake as well. At the back, there will be a completely redesigned tailgate with full-width LED light bar. The XUV300 EV’s overall look will be much smoother and in-line with newer SUVs in the market. It will also have C-shaped taillamps, and the registration plate will be moved on the bumper instead of on the tailgate. There will be a new set of alloy wheel designs as well depending on variant.
Mahindra XUV300 EV interior highlights
On the inside, there won’t be major differences however we can confirm that the dashboard will have mild alterations to accommodate a much bigger infotainment screen. The Nexon EV has taken the screen size game to the next level with top-variant getting a massive 12.3 inch infotainment screen. Mid-spec variants of the Nexon EV make do with a 10.25 inch screen. The AC vents on the XUV300 will be repositioned to accommodate the new infotainment screen and there will be minor changes to the switchgear as well along with redesigned center console. On the cargo side of things, the XUV300 EV will be based on the under-four meter long XUV300 facelift which means it will have a cargo space of around 257 liters and not the larger 378 liter boot seen on the XUV400 EV. The XUV300’s 257 liter boot space would still fall short of the 350 liter capacity that’s on the Nexon EV.
In an emailed response, a Mahindra & Mahindra spokesperson said that the company does not comment on speculations.
