Mahindra Thar price, new update, logo, waiting period

The Thar diesel automatic currently has a waiting period of around four months.

Mahindra has introduced a mild update to the popular Thar SUV’s line-up. The Thar went on sale in October 2020 and has since been one of the top-sellers for Mahindra. As part of the latest update, the Thar gets Mahindra’s new Twin Peaks and other minor ergonomic changes.

  • Traction control, hill descent control switches relocated to centre console
  • Four month waiting period for Thar diesel automatic

Mahindra Thar: control switches repositioned

The Twin Peaks logo is now seen on the Thar’s steering wheel, hubcaps of the alloy wheels as well as on the key fob. The main exterior logo above the grille, however, continues to be the ‘Mahindra’ lettering as was the case with the original SUV.

Besides the new logo, the traction and hill descent control switches have been relocated from the right side of the steering wheel to the centre console, where previously dummy buttons were placed. Additionally, there is now a door lock/unlock button on the centre console. The toggle switches themselves have been redesigned and now look much sleeker than before. Mahindra has also removed one of the two USB charge ports above the storage tray.

Another update is that the Thar SUV now comes with only four exterior paint shade options as opposed to the six options before. Mahindra has discontinued Rocky Beige and Mystic Copper shades on the Thar, while the rest of the four paint shades – Napoli Black, Galaxy Grey, Aqua Marine and Red continue – continue to be on offer.

Mahindra Thar: four month waiting period on diesel auto

Dealers tell us that the Thar diesel automatic currently has a waiting period of around four months, while diesel manual versions can be delivered sooner. The petrol variants can be had in less than two months at some locations. Prices for the Thar start currently start at Rs 13.53 lakh for the petrol, going upt0 Rs 16.03 lakh for the top-spec diesel automatic, both prices ex-showroom, Delhi.

All Mahindra SUVs now sport the twin peaks logo

Not just the Thar, but all SUVs in Mahindra’s portfolio – Bolero, Bolero Neo and XUV300 – will now get the Twin Peaks logo, which was introduced on the XUV700 last year, and was also seen on the Scoprio N and the Scorpio Classic recently.

We are told that dispatches of the Bolero Neo and the XUV300 with the new logo are also in the process and will be hitting showrooms soon. The XUV300 will also get a variant rejig and a more powerful 130hp, 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. Additionally, the upcoming XUV400, Mahindra’s first electric SUV that will see its global debut on September 8, 2022, will also sport the new logo.
