Mahindra Thar Armada launch soon, could get panoramic sunroof, new features

Upon launch, the Mahindra Thar 5-door will be one of the few ladder-frame SUVs to get this feature.

The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door, which could be called the Thar Armada, has been spotted testing multiple times, and fresh spy shots now reveal the presence of a dual-pane sunroof. The SUV is one of the most anticipated new car launches this year, although the launch date has not been announced.

  1. Thar 5-door will get more creature comforts than the 3-door
  2. To get multiple powertrain options
  3. 5-seater layout expected

Mahindra Thar Armada to get two sunroof options

As we’ve reported earlier, the Thar 5-door was confirmed to get a single-pane sunroof until now, with that mule considered to be the top-spec of the SUV replete with diamond-cut alloys and the works. However, sighting of the dual-pane sunroof indicates that there could be a higher variant than the one previously sighted.

The dual-pane sunroof option will be a unique feature on the Thar as, at the moment, it’s not available on any ladder-frame SUV in India, and on very few SUVs overseas.

Mahindra Thar Armada powertrain highlights

We reported recently that the upcoming Thar 5-door will have three powertrain options: an entry-level 1.5-litre diesel that will give the SUV an aggressive entry price, and a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol. We expect the latter two engine options to get 4WD and the entry-level 1.5 diesel to just get an RWD setup.

Mahindra Thar Armada booking details

While there is no news on commencement of official bookings, a few Mahindra dealers have been accepting unofficial bookings for the Thar 5-door. The dealers are accepting bookings for the 3-door, and promising customers that these will be converted to those of the 5-door later on.
