Magna has made over 100,000 eDrive transmissions at its JV in China |
Magna said it had now made 100,000 eDrive gearboxes locally for Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.
The supplier also claimed it had won new orders for the transmissions, “further supporting Chinese startups” but provided no details of quantity or value.
Localised production is a joint venture with Jiangling Motors.
The Magna plant in Jiangxi began production in 2018. The eDrive system is claimed to be high efficiency, offer class leading power density, excellent noise, vibration and harshness performance and can cope with torque from 200Nm to 530Nm. They are used in sedans and SUVs made by Chinese automakers including Nio and Xpeng.
“With the success of these programmes, Magna continues to win new business for eDrive technologies with EV start-ups,” the supplier said in a statement.
“As powertrain electrification accelerates, especially in the Chinese market, we are positioned well to continue supporting automakers in their continued efforts to bring electrified vehicles to market quickly,” said Tom Rucker, Magna Powertrain president.
