KTM 390 Adventure, power, design, features

Both the next-gen 390 Adventure and 390 Enduro will be based on the latest 390 Duke but will have different intents.

The next gen KTM 390 Adventure has been spotted tested again, but this time alongside the new 390 Enduro which has been spotted in India for the first time. These clear spy shots are a great hint at what we can expect from both bikes.

  1. 399cc engine likely to make outputs in the ballpark of 46hp, 39Nm
  2. Next-gen Adventure has a brand-new design
  3. 390 Enduro could have longer travel suspension

For starters, it’s pretty evident that the Enduro will be the more off-road focused model. We believe that while the Indian-spec 390 ADV will continue with a 19-inch front wheel to keep the seat height more accessible, it appears that the Enduro will come with a proper off-road focused 21-inch front wheel. While it is uncertain at the moment, the Enduro model will also probably have more suspension travel. What can be seen for certain is a set of more chunky off road tyres compared with the ADV alongside.

Since KTM gave the Gen 3 390 Duke a complete overhaul featuring a new engine, frame and suspension, expect to see similar benefits with the next-gen 390 ADV. These include a new swingarm and side slung monoshock that allows for a bigger airbox and a lower seat. The upcoming 390 Adventure features new vertically stacked projectors surrounded by LED DRLs in KTM’s signature style. It also showcases a taller visor which seems more touring friendly than the model it’s due to replace. Meanwhile the Enduro version features a smaller headlamp with no visor.

Both variants also feature a tall beak and a side fender design that’s more in line with the design language of the larger KTM ADVs. While the standard 390 Adventure seems to be using a wider single piece seat, the Enduro features a narrower flat seat better suited for offroad use.

Braking equipment will most likely be carried over from the 390 Duke featuring single discs at the front and rear along with switchable ABS. Additionally you can expect the regular suite of ride modes, traction control and more that can be adjusted via its TFT console.

At the heart of the new 390 Adventure would be a 399cc single cylinder motor that should produce similar numbers to the Duke – 46hp and 39Nm of torque. This motor will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox that should also get a bi-directional quickshifter.

Upon its launch the KTM 390 Adventure will go up against the likes of the new Royal Enfield Himalayan, BMW G 310 GS and the Yezdi Adventure. As for the Enduro it will have no direct competition in India and will quite likely be one of the most off-road appropriate road legal bikes for the price. However, don’t expect this bike to be of the same caliber as the proper Enduro machines sold by KTM overseas. After all, it is still based on a road bike platform, including the engine, chassis and under-slung exhaust.
