Kia Auto Expo 2023: Carnival (KA4) launch, features, powertrain and rivals

The KA4 is known as the Carnival overseas and succeeds the model that’s already on sale here.

Kia has unveiled the KA4 MPV at the Auto Expo 2023. It is essentially the fourth-generation Carnival, but has been showcased here two years after its global debut. It comes with SUV-inspired styling and more tech.

  1. Kia KA4 offered in multiple seating layouts
  2. Likely to be offered with a diesel engine

Kia KA4: fresh looks, more space

Compared to the existing Carnival that’s already on sale in India, the KA4 looks more like an SUV, thanks to its angular lines and a squared-off stance.

At the front, it features the brand’s ‘Tiger Nose’ grille, with a diamond pattern flanked by sleek headlights. It gets a prominent chrome finish for the lower air intake, and a faux skid plate heightens its SUV-like look.

In profile, the KA4 gets a prominent character line that runs the length of the MPV linking the head and tail-lights. It gets a brushed aluminium trim on the C-pillar, while the A-, B- and D-pillars are finished in black, creating an effect that Kia calls an ‘island roof’. At the rear, it features horizontal tail-lamps connected by an LED light bar.

Measuring 5,156mm in length, the new KA4 is longer than before, and is significantly longer than the newly launched Innova Hycross.

Kia KA4: interior design, equipment and seating layouts

Compared to the layered and button-heavy design of the existing Carnival, the KA4 features a more minimalist design, with two 12.3-inch displays taking the centre stage. Kia has loaded the new MPV with all bells and whistles, including features like powered front seats, wireless charger and a premium sound system. It also gets ADAS tech and multiple airbags as part of its safety kit.

Globally, the KA4 is offered in 7-, 9- and 11-seat configurations, with its longer wheelbase and rear overhang resulting in more space at the rear.

Kia KA4: powertrain and launch details

In other markets, the KA4 is offered with two engine options – a 201hp, 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 296hp, 3.5-litre petrol engine. For India, Kia will likely continue with the diesel motor.

What else has Kia showcased at Auto Expo 2023?

In addition to the KA4, Kia has also showcased the EV9 Concept at the Auto Expo 2023.
