India-spec BYD Atto 3: expected range, battery, power, dimension and launch details

The Atto 3 will be the Chinese carmaker’s second model in India and will be assembled from CKD kits.

Chinese carmaker BYD (Build Your Dreams) will launch its Atto 3 electric SUV in India on October 11, making it the carmaker’s second model here. The e6 MPV, launched last year, was BYD’s first product for India, and it was recently made available to private buyers.

The Atto 3 is a five-seater electric SUV measuring close to 4.5 metres in length – similar to a Hyundai Alcazar – and will be positioned in the Rs 25 lakh-35 lakh EV SUV segment. Ahead of the Atto 3’s launch, technical details and equipment list of the electric SUV have surfaced online.

Here are five things you can expect from the BYD Atto 3 in India.

In terms of dimensions, the BYD Atto 3 measures 4,455mm in length, 1,875mm in width and 1,615mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,720mm. These dimensions make it considerably larger than its main rivals – the MG ZS EV (4,323 mm) and the Hyundai Kona (4,180mm). The Atto 3, weighing at 1,750kg, will have a boot capacity of 440 litres and a ground clearance of 175mm.

2. BYD Atto 3: powertrain and performance

The BYD Atto 3 comes powered by a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that produces 201hp and 310Nm of maximum torque. The electric motor powers the front wheels only and it also gets regenarative braking technology. BYD claims a 0-100kph sprint time of 7.3 seconds for the Atto 3.

3. BYD Atto 3: battery and range

The Atto 3 is expected to be offered in India with two battery pack options. There’s a 49.92kWh battery pack that delivers a WLTP-certified range of 345km. BYD will also likely offer an extended range version that uses a larger 60.48kWh battery pack offering a WLTP-certified range of 420km on a single charge. The Atto 3 is compatible with DC fast charging of up to 80kW.

4. BYD Atto 3: equipment

The India-bound Atto 3 will be generously equipped with features like all-LED lighting, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, heated wing mirrors, electrically adjustable front seats, wireless phone chargers, leatherette upholstery, automatic climate control, a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen and a 5-inch digital instrument cluster.

In terms of safety, the Atto 3 gets features like a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control and advanced active safety features like automatic emergency braking, front and rear collision warning, blind spot monitoring and lane keep assist.

5. BYD Atto 3: India launch, dealerships

Following its launch on October 11, deliveries are only expected to begin in early 2023. The Atto 3 is expected to be priced around Rs 30 lakh-35 lakh (ex-showroom), which means it will be more expensive than its direct rivals.

In terms of dealerships, Landmark Cars has started opening BYD outlets in India, with the first one having coming up in Delhi, followed by a few more in South India, and one even in Mumbai.
