Parts shortages include the Hyundai Mobis made Ioniq 5 traction motor |
Hyundai Motor has suspended production at another plant in South Korea this week due to the continued global shortage of semiconductors and other electronic parts.
The automaker said it would halt operations at its Asan plant, which makes the Grandeur and Sonata sedans, for two days on Monday and Tuesday (12 and 13 April).
Hyundai announced earlier it would suspend production at its Ulsan No 1 plant, which makes the Kona subcompact SUV and the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle, for more than a week this month resulting in the production loss of 12,500 vehicles.
This latest suspension was blamed on a shortage of parts used in the Kona front camera system and also on a problem with a production line at the largest affiliated supplier, Hyundai Mobis, which makes the Ioniq 5 traction motor.
Hyundai has also reduced overtime this month at its Ulsan No 3 plant, which produces the Avante compact sedan, because of a shortage of electric control units (ECUs).
