BS6 Honda Gold Wing: engine and transmission
The BS6 Honda Gold Wing features a revised fuel-injection system, in comparison to the one present in the 2018 model. The company says that the Fi system is further refined to improve the Gold Wing’s low-speed manoeuvrability. The 1,833cc, flat-six, liquid-cooled engine makes 126hp at 5,500rpm and 170Nm at 4,500rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a shaft-drive system.
Besides improving its fuel-injection system, Honda has also updated the Gold Wing’s 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic transmission) hardware and software – once again, in the quest to improve low-speed rideability.
The DCT system is smoother and quieter in its operation, and this was achieved by using noise damping rubber on both ends of the fork guide and master arm in the transmission. In addition to this, a spring damper has been installed between the clutch and the main shaft, reducing noise and shock while shifting gears. The DCT versions also have a creep function to make it easier to crawl while riding on traffic-infested streets.
BS6 Honda Gold Wing: equipment
The Honda Gold Wing being a flagship Japanese touring machine, there seems to be no dearth of features. The list includes full-LED lights, 7.0-inch TFT screen with Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The BS6 Gold Wing’s audio system has been upgraded with 45-watt speakers, optimized automatic volume-adjustment level and an XM radio antenna as standard.
The DCT models get a reverse gear while the Gold Wing Tour variant will be available with LED fog lamps and an airbag. In terms of electronics, there’s Hill Start Assist, cruise control and four ride modes – Tour, Sport, Econ and Rain
BS6 Honda Gold Wing: chassis
One of the big highlights about this generation of the Honda Gold Wing is the new chassis that is lighter and stiffer than the one on its predecessor. It is suspended by a unique double-wishbone front suspension and uses a preload-adjustable pro-link monoshock at the rear. The Tour variant received a few tweaks to its suspension settings for better comfort, especially when riding two up.
BS6 Honda Gold Wing: colours, price and availability
Honda has also introduced two new colours, Matte Black Metallic in the DCT trim and a Pearl White, Deep Pearl Grey available in the Tour variant with DCT and airbag.
Honda hasn’t made any changes to the design and the Gold Wing continues to look striking, with its large LED lights and fairing. However, the Tour model has a redesigned pillion seat and a larger top-box at the rear. This should be ample room to hold two full-face helmets.
The BS6 Honda Gold Wing should cost a little more than the Rs 26.85 lakh that the BS4, DCT-equipped motorcycle commanded. It will only be sold at Honda’s Big Wing dealerships after it is launched in India. Stick around to know the price.
