2022 Honda Monkey: the engine
Honda has plonked in a Euro-5-compliant, 125cc, air-cooled engine that’s also present in the Honda Grom 125. It makes 9.2hp at 6,750rpm and 11Nm at 5,500rpm. While these figures are the same as before, Honda has added a new intake and reshaped the airbox. The exhaust muffler has been replaced by a new unit with a single-chamber, and it is said to offer a nicer exhaust note. Paired to this little engine comes a new 5-speed gearbox, instead of the 4-speed unit on the previous Honda Monkey.
2022 Honda Monkey: chassis
The Monkey employs a steel backbone frame with a USD fork at the front and new twin shock absorbers at the back; these feature two-stage springs and revised damper rubbers to improve ride quality over bumpy roads. Braking is taken care of by a 220mm disc at the front and a 190mm disc at the back; an IMU-controlled ABS is standard. The Monkey rides on 12-inch wheels, shod with chunky, block pattern tyres.
What’s also notable is that the 2022 Honda Monkey has lost weight, tipping the scales at 104kg (kerb), whereas the previous model weighed 107kg. This results in a power to weight ratio of 88.46hp/ton.
2022 Honda Monkey: design
The Honda Monkey’s retro styled design is quite unique and lends it a sense of character. The paint schemes add to the retro flair, although there are modern bits like all-LED lighting and a digital instrument cluster.
2022 Honda Monkey: price, colours and availability
The Honda Monkey is on sale in international markets, priced at £3,799 (around Rs 4 lakh), and is available in three colours – Pearl Glittering Blue, Banana Yellow and Pearl Nebula Red.
