Honda Activa, electric scooter, EV R&D centre India

This centre will focus on Indian electric two wheelers and power products like batteries for e-scooters.

Honda R&D (India) Private Limited (HRID) is a subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. This business subsidy serves as Honda’s research and development arm for motorcycles & power products in India, and it has just opened its new Solution R&D Center in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Honda R&D Centre India: what will it focus on?

This new Honda Solution R&D Center will be focused on bringing advanced mobility technologies into electrified vehicle development more quickly, as well as work on software and connected services through ‘co-creating’ open innovation by adopting technologies and ideas of research and development companies.’ 

The city of Bengaluru is already an established EV hub and has a vibrant supplier ecosystem. Honda has also stated that its new RnD centre will be working alongside multiple companies in the area to ‘develop new services and businesses that go beyond the scope of existing businesses and products from a long-term perspective.’

India is a huge two-wheeler market for Honda on a global level and the company’s highly anticipated electric scooter could debut in 2024. However much of the development work on that particular product will have been completed before the opening of this new RnD centre. 

This announcement is in line with Honda’s own global targets of achieving carbon neutrality in all its products and corporate activities by 2050. For  the motorcycle business in particular, Honda states that it aims to achieve carbon neutrality across the range during the 2040s.
