Of these two new bikes, one will be sporty and the other will be more commuter-centric.
Hero MotoCorp is currently the leader in the cutthroat 100cc bike segment with 5 models in that space. But now, we have gotten our hands on a document that confirms that the company is working on expanding its 125cc motorcycle lineup.
- Sporty 125cc bike likely to have angular styling
- Commuter-centric 125 also under development
Most 125cc bikes sold in India are largely of the commuter sort and the only sporty air-cooled 125cc bike is the TVS Raider, which recently crossed the 3 lakh unit sales mark. Hero already has a range of 125cc commuters like the Glamour and the Super Splendor but none of them have any sporty intentions. With this new sporty 125cc bike, Hero could well be targeting the TVS Raider which has gone largely unopposed thus far. The design sketch shows something very muscular and sharp which hints that this new 125cc bike will likely be a very striking looking thing.
There is also the possibility of Hero developing a modern, liquid-cooled engine for this bike which would make it a rival to the KTM 125 Duke, which is currently the only bike in this displacement category to have that technology.
Along with this new sporty machine, Hero is also developing a new 125cc bike that will be geared towards commuting. It can be seen that this new bike is positioned in the same line as the Glamour model which indicates that this will probably be a more basic and simple machine. Since there is a Hero Connect logo in the same line as this bike, it is reasonable to expect that this bike will also have Hero’s proprietary XTEC Bluetooth technology.
Going by the fact that these plans have just surfaced, there is still quite some time before either of these two bikes make it into production. Watch this space as we bring you the latest on upcoming Hero products.
