Ford Capri to make a comeback as an MEB-based EV

Ford will bring the famed Capri nameplate back for its second born-EV SUV based on Volkswagen's MEB platform. The first born-electric model on the VW MEB platform is the Explorer EV SUV that will go on sale in Europe in the coming months.

Ford Capri EV SUV: second MEB-based born EV

The all-new Ford Capri EV SUV will be unveiled next year. The original Ford Capri was a popular two-door sports coupe that was on sale from 1968-1986 in Europe.

As far as looks go, while the names may be familiar, the designs really won’t be. As the first of a new breed of Fords conceived under the Adventurous Spirit banner, the Explorer sets the tone for every bespoke EV that will follow it over the coming years. Direct references to previous Ford models are few and far between, both inside and out.

Likewise, the new-generation Capri will be a higher-riding proposition, and will gain a pair of extra doors in line with its family crossover billing. Specifications will no doubt be broadly identical to the Explorer, which offers up to 339hp and a maximum range of more than 482km.

Expect more details on the new Ford Capri to trickle in closer to its global debut sometime early next year.

Ford and India

Ford exited India in 2022 due to slow sales. While market launches of fully imported EVs like the Mustang Mach E were considered, there is no update on when it will make it to India.
