Ducati is developing the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak

Ducati is said to be working on a Pikes Peak variant of the recently introduced Multistrada V4, as per leaked EPA (Environment Protection Agency) documents.

  • Sportier version of the Duacti Multistrada V4
  • May get lighter wheels, manually adjustable suspension and carbon fibre bits
  • Expected to be powered by the standard V4’s 170hp and 125Nm engine

What is the Ducati Multistrada Pikes Peak?

The Pikes Peak edition of the Ducati Multistrada has been the Italian manufacturer’s way of commemorating its victories at the famous Pikes Peak Hill Climb in the USA. The late Carlin Dunne piloted a Ducati Multistrada 1200 in 2012 and Multistrada 1260 in 2018 to the top of the summit in the shortest time and Ducati decided to release a special Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak edition to celebrate the success.

Going by the leaked EPA documents, the Pikes Peak edition of the Multistrada V4 could be in the works, despite motorcycles not appearing at the event following Carlin Dunne’s fatal crash at the 2019 edition.

Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak details

Going by what Ducati had come up with on the Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak, the Multistrada V4 is expected to continue in the same vein. Which essentially means that it may be the sportier variant of the Multistrada V4 that was recently introduced in International markets. That could include a shorter windscreen, lighter forged wheels, manually adjustable suspension (possibly Ohlins) and Termignoni exhaust.

Visually, the Duacti Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak could also feature carbon fibre bits and a different paint scheme, replete with white stripes, as has traditionally been the case with other Multistrada Pikes Peak editions.

Under the skin of the Duacti Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak

Under the skin the Duacti Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is expected to feature the same chassis, engine and electronics package (including the radar based adaptive cruise control) as the Multistrada V4 that’s currently sold in the International markets.

The new V4 engine produces 170hp at 10,500rpm and maximum torque of 125Nm at 8,750rpm. For reference, the older 1,262cc, V-twin was capable of making 158hp at 9,500rpm and 128Nm at 7,500rpm.

The other big talking point of the new Multistrada V4 Granturismo engine is the 60,000km valve check interval, which was achieved by ditching the company’s traditional usage of Desmodromic valves and instead adopting a spring valve return system. The company has also added cylinder deactivation, where the rear bank shuts off at idle to help reduce the heat felt by the rider and the pillion.
