Citroen C3 price, C3X sedan, C3 Aircross details, spy shots

Citroen C3X sedan, likely to carry the Fastlounge suffix, will follow the C3 Aircross SUV to the Indian market.

While Citroen India is gearing up for the market launch and price announcement of the C3 Aircross SUV, its next product, the C3X crossover sedan, is already being tested in many locations including India. The latest spy shots, brought to us thanks to our friends at Motor.es,  have emerged, and confirm that the C3X is being being tested in Europe.

  1. C3X will be around 4.3 metres long
  2. Will come with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine
  3. Expected to go on sale in India next year

Citroen C3X: what do the spy shots reveal

The new set of pictures show the high-riding sedan being tested on Spanish roads, and while the test mule is still more or less covered, the pictures do reveal a few details.  As reported by us earlier, the C3X crossover sedan (likely to be called Citroen C3X or C3 Fastlounge) has a lot in common with the C3 Aircross SUV.  The entire front section, including all the body panels; the bonnet, front fascia, and even the front doors, seem to be shared with the C3 Aircross. Things, however, change drastically from the rear door onwards; it’s completely unique and tapers down with the roofline to give the vehicle a four-door coupe-like silhouette.

As seen from the spy shots, the C3X will sport a lot of SUV-like cues, such as a ground clearance that’s similar to the C3 Aircross, large alloy wheels, and rugged-looking plastic cladding all around. As far as dimensions go, the C3X should be around 4.3-4.4 metres in length, and will likely have the same wheelbase as the C3 Aircross SUV.

While the new C3X will be aimed at the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus, and Skoda Slavia, it will carve out its own niche as a crossover sedan, with distinctive styling on the lines of the larger C4X and the C5X, which are already on sale in Europe.

Citroen C3X: what else is known

The C3X will be Citroen’s third offering to be built on the company’s India-specific CMP modular platform, following the C3 hatchback and the upcoming C3 Aircross SUV that will launch next month. The powertrain will be the same as other Citroen C3 models – a 110hp, 1.2-litre, turbo-petrol engine mated to a manual, and there will most likely be an automatic gearbox option as well. The carmaker will also develop an electric version, similar to the eC3, along with the upcoming eC3 Aircross; the latter is already in the pipeline.
