BMW iX1 India launch on September 28

BMW has officially announced that they will launch the iX1 in India on September 28, 2023. The electric SUV will be the 4th electric model in BMW’s India lineup following the i4 sedan, iX SUV and the i7 luxury sedan. The launch will come 8 months after the new X1 was launched in the country.

  1. Likely to be sold as a CBU
  2. Makes a combined 313hp, 494Nm
  3. Has a claimed range of 440km

BMW iX1 exterior and interior

The BMW iX1 is based on the BMW X1, which was BMW’s best-selling SUV in the Financial year of 2023. The electric SUV looks similar to its ICE counterpart except for blue accents on the front and rear bumpers, side steps and grille.

On the inside, the iX1 comes equipped with a 10.7-inch touchscreen and BMW’s curved digital information display system. The electric SUV could also come with an optional Panoramic sunroof and front massage seats.

BMW iX1 Powertrain, battery and range

The BMW iX1 xDrive30 gets a 66.5kWh Lithium-ion battery that is capable of DC fast charging up to 130kW. Powered by two motors, the SUV produces a combined 313hp and 494Nm, which BMW claims allows it to go from 0-100kph in 5.6 seconds. The iX1 has a claimed range of 440km and a top speed of 180km.

BMW iX1 price and rivals

BMW will likely bring the electric SUV to India VIA the CBU import route, which could lead to prices being slightly on the higher side. However, the ICE X1 is currently locally assembled in India, so we could see the brand replicating this production plan with the electric SUV too.

We can expect the iX1 to be priced in the region of Rs 60-65 lakh, which could make it the most affordable electric BMW in India. At this price point, the SUV will rival the Volvo XC40 Recharge which is priced at Rs 56.9 lakh.
