Bajaj Platina 110, CNG bike India launch

Bajaj is likely benchmark testing the CNG bike against its own 110cc commuter.

Late last year, we were the first to break the news that Bajaj is working on a CNG-powered motorcycle to rival the 100-110cc commuters on sale today. And now, the bike has been spotted testing alongside Bajaj’s own entrant in that space – the Platina 110.

  1. India launch likely around festive season 2024
  2. Looks like it will be a rugged commuter

Bajaj CNG bike design, features, mileage

From what little is visible of the bike in this image, it seems like it is going to be a pukka commuter with a long, flat seat, simple underpinnings and what seems to be an enclosed chain drive. The ‘tank’ region seems unusually small and it remains to be seen how Bajaj manages to package the CNG tank into the confines of a small motorcycle.

While the exact displacement of the Bajaj CNG bike is unknown, it is likely to be in the 110cc or 125cc ballpark, since the manufacturer is targeting rural and semi-urban areas with this novel machine. It also remains to be seen whether the engine will solely run on CNG or will have the option of running on petrol as well.

While running on CNG, engines usually make a noticeably less amount of peak output than when they run on petrol as seen in the four-wheeler arena with models from companies like Tata and Maruti Suzuki.

Currently, there’s no official confirmation on what the motorcycle will be called although Bajaj is sitting on an untapped reserve of names it holds the trademark rights to, two of the most recent ones being Marathon and Glider. It remains to be seen exactly when this unique CNG-powered Bajaj bike makes its way to showrooms but with plans on the anvil to launch new bikes and scooters nearly every month this year, it could be around the festive season at the end of this year.
