Bajaj Chetak electric scooter price hiked significantly

The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter now costs significantly more than before.

  • Prices for both Bajaj Chetak versions – Urbane and Premium – have gone up

  • Bookings for the Chetak e-scooter opened for 48 hours, have closed again

Just last month, the Chetak witnessed its first price hike that took the price of the more affordable Urbane variant by Rs 15,000, while the Premium variant went up by Rs 5,000. This price hike was announced when the company still wasn’t accepting bookings for its electric scooter.

Bajaj recently reopened bookings temporarily a few days ago on a first come first serve basis. The company said that a large number of confirmed orders were placed by customers, requiring it to cease acceptance of bookings within 48 hours. Bajaj has said that it will review the supply situation and announce the next round of booking opportunity.

The bigger news, however, was the price it was being sold at. The Urbane’s latest price is Rs 1,42,620, while the Premium will set you back by Rs 1,44,620. This is an increase of Rs 27,620 and Rs 24,620, respectively.

To recap, the Premium model gets additional metallic colour options, a dark/light tan seat, metallic-coloured wheels and a disc brake at the front. The Urbane model, meanwhile, misses out on the metallic colour option and uses a drum brake at the front.

The hiked pricing brings the Chetak almost on par with the Ather 450 Plus (Rs 1.40 lakh) and Ather 450 X (Rs 1.59 lakh). Another rival, the TVS iQube, costs Rs 1.36 lakh and is available in Bengaluru and Delhi.

All prices, ex-showroom, India
