2022 Volkswagen Polo Legend edition revealed; launch soon

Volkswagen Polo Legend GT TSI is based on the top-spec GT TSI, and a price announcement is expected soon.

Volkswagen has revealed the Polo Legend edition based on the GT TSI variant to celebrate the hatchback’s 12-year journey in India. This special edition gets new decals and ‘Legend’ badging. It comes powered with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine mated to an automatic gearbox.

The Legend edition also marks the current-gen Polo’s last hurrah in the Indian market before its end of production.

Volkswagen Polo Legend: what’s different?

Besides the special ‘Legend’ badging on the fender and boot and the new body decals, the Polo Legend comes with black boot garnish and black roof foil. It’s based on the top-spec GT TSI variant and sees no other changes to the exterior or interior. It is likely that Volkswagen will have a limited run of 700 units with this new edition.

The Polo Legend is powered by a 110hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, same as the GT TSI variant.

Volkswagen Polo in India

Volkswagen launched the Polo in the Indian market in 2010, and since then it has been a popular choice for buyers seeking a fun-to-drive hatchback. Over the years, the carmaker added new variants and launched several facelifts. The biggest recent update to the Polo was the introduction of the BS6-complaint 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine in March 2020. The carmaker also replaced the dual-clutch automatic with a torque-converter one.

Volkswagen recently announced that they would be pulling the plug on the Polo in the Indian market, and would concentrate on made-for-India products like the Taigun SUV and the upcoming Virtus sedan. There is no direct replacement planned for the Polo hatchback in India, although the carmaker could launch the fully imported new-generation Polo GTI in the Indian market.
