The Mahindra Marazzo is going to receive an automatic gearbox option with its diesel powertrain in the coming months. The recently surfaced homologation document for the automatic version of the MPV corroborates our report from 2018 about Mahindra developing an automatic gearbox for the Marazzo MPV.
- Marazzo to get a 6-speed AMT automatic gearbox
- Will continue to use the 123hp, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine
- AMT gearbox will be offered on all three trim – M2, M4+ and M6+
Mahindra Marazzo: automatic gearbox and engine details
Mahindra will be equipping the Marazzo with a 6-speed AMT automatic gearbox. Powering the MPV will be the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 123hp and 300Nm, as in the current model.
As per the document, it appears that Mahindra will offer the automatic gearbox option with all three trims of the MPV – M2, M4+ and M6+. It is also worth mentioning that Mahindra is also developing a petrol engine for the Marazzo.
Mahindra Marazzo automatic: variants on offer
All of the Marazzo’s three trim levels are available in 7- and 8-seat configurations. As standard, the Marazzo gets features like dual airbags, ABS, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, 16-inch steel wheels, power windows and rear air con vents, to name a few. The top-spec M6+ gets 17-inch alloys, a rear parking camera, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted controls and automatic climate control, among others.
Mahindra Marazzo automatic: price and rivals
In terms of pricing, expect the automatic version of the Mahindra Marazzo to cost around Rs 40,000-50,000 more than its manual counterpart. Coming to its rivals, the Marazzo competes with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and its more premium derivative – the XL6 – both of which also have automatic gearbox options. Although, both the Marutis are petrol-only models and their prices undercut that of the Marazzo. The next closest diesel powered MPV in our market is the Toyota Innova Crysta, which is in a much higher price bracket altogether.
