1,900hp Pininfarina Battista hyper-EV revealed

Mahindra owned- Automobili Pininfarina has finally taken the wraps off the production-spec Battista hyper-EV at the Monterey Car Week in California, over two years after it was first showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in concept form. Described as “the most powerful road-legal Italian car ever built”, the Pininfarina Battista produces 1,900hp from a quad-motor powertrain.

  • Only 150 units of the Battista will be produced
  • Five units marked out as ultra-exclusive Battista Anniversario
  • Powertrain closely related to rival Rimac Nevera

Pininfarina Battista: what’s to know?

The design, both inside and out, remain unchanged from the production-ready prototype revealed last year, as does the car’s dual focus on ‘driver-centric’ high-speed thrills and long-distance refinement.

As part of Automobili Pininfarina’s participation in the celebrated Monterey car week, the ultra-exclusive Battista Anniversario also appeared in public for the first time. Just 150 Battistas will be produced, five of which will be specified in the Anniversario trim.

The Anniversario is easily differentiated by the bespoke aero-focused ‘Furiosa’ styling package and two-tone paint scheme to celebrate Pininfarina’s 90th anniversary.

Pininfarina Battista: powertrain details

As promised, the Battista produces a mind-boggling 1,900hp and 2,300Nm of torque from a quad-motor powertrain (one for each wheel) closely related to that used by its rival Rimac Nevera. As such, it offers similarly astounding performance capabilities.

Pininfarina says that the car is good enough for a 0-100kph time of under 2sec, 0-300kph in less than 12sec and reach a top speed of around 350kph. The Battista has a 120kWh battery pack that gives this hyper-EV a claimed range of 500km and charging speeds of up to 180kW.

Automobili Pininfarina CEO Per Svantesson hailed the Battista’s reveal as “the beginning of another significant chapter in the Automobili Pininfarina story”.

He said: “We are excited to showcase the beautiful and sustainable future of luxury to our clients, while celebrating over 90 years of Pininfarina design heritage during Monterey Car Week. We look forward to our clients in the US experiencing the immense dynamic performance and personalised luxury of Battista for the first time.”

The Battista is primarily aimed at left-hand drive markets, with a production-run of 150 units to be equally distributed among the US, Europe and the rest of the world. The EV is expected to go on sale in early 2022, at an estimated price of GBP 1.7 million (about Rs 17.5 crore).

Pininfarina Battista to join growing club of electric hypercars

The Battista is one of several mega-output electric hypercars entering production in the coming months. Croatian outfit Rimac’s Nevera, which shares elements of its powertrain with the Battista, was revealed in full earlier this year, and the similarly potent Lotus Evija will be fully signed off by the end of 2021.

Pininfarina is also readying a high-performance electric SUV that is due next year. This model will be available in both left and right-hand-drive configurations. The EV maker has said that it will have a family of five models by 2025.
