Next month’s AM Live will feature a session dedicated to exploring how service departments are evolving to cater for an increasing share of electric vehicle (EV) work in the future.
The one day conference is being held at the NEC, Birmingham on November 9 and is free for automotive retail professionals.
Most service departments are already in the thick of preparing for a greater share of EVs in their workshops.
They are investing in specialist tools and training to cater for the service, maintenance and repair (SMR) needs of the EVs already on the road, as well as to adhere to the standards expected of them by their manufacturer partners.
ICDP has been leading research into projections for how EV sales will impact aftersales work across major European markets.
ICDP’s previous data simulations on how EV will impact the UK aftersales market has shown a potential 6% drop off in aftersales revenues by 2030.
Gareth Arnould, ICDP senior researcher, will share the latest data on how EVs are impacting service departments and make further predictions on how this will progress in the years to come.
Liam Finney, director of commercial partnerships at EMaC, will look at how garages can position themselves to make the most of the EV aftersales opportunity, including on key areas like tyres and bespoke aftersales packages.
EMaC believes dealers have an opportunity to offer EV customers more personalised pick and mix style ownership packages, which will help protect them against additional running costs, while maintaining workshop utilisation and offsetting some of the revenue shortfall caused by diminishing oil and filter sales.
Finney said: “Customers are receptive to ownership packages geared to their specific needs as EV users.
“For them it’s all about peace of mind and reducing their running costs.”
Not only will the event offer a packaged schedule of seminar content featuring over 40 speakers, there will also be over 60 innovative suppliers under one roof for delegates to explore the latest innovations and benchmark the best solutions for their business.
