Bihar accounts for 35 percent of Honda two-wheeler’s total sales in the eastern part of India.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced that it has achieved cumulative sales of three million (30 lakh units) of its 125cc motorcycles – the Shine 125 and SP125 – in eastern India. This reflects both, the general market shift towards 125cc motorcycles from fuel-sipping 100cc commuter bikes, as well as HMSI’s position as a dominant player in the 125cc motorcycle segment in east India, which includes the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha, along with the seven North-Eastern states.
HMSI claims it had a market share of 41.5 percent in FY2024 in this region, with Bihar being the highest contributing state, accounting for 35 percent of its 125cc motorcycle sales in the Eastern region. This translates into 11.55 lakh (or 1.15 million) Shine 125 and SP125 motorcycles sold in Bihar.
According to HMSI, the brand has over 1,100 sales and service touchpoints in the Eastern states of India, and sales of the SP125 have more than doubled in the last five years in the region. In FY2024, HMSI’s total sales of the Shine 125 and SP125 were 13,07,301 units, up 8 percent, and in April 2024, the first month of FY2025, 1,21,338 units were dispatched to dealers, up 36 percent (April 2023: 89,261 units).
