New Hyundai Verna: Exterior

The all-new Verna is marginally bigger than its competitors with the length increased to 4,535 mm and width to 1,765mm, this makes it the segment leader when it comes to the wheelbase, with the minor stretch offering passengers more legroom. For reference, the VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia have a wheelbase of 2651mm, the new Honda City of 2600mm, and the Hyundai Verna has a wheelbase of 2670mm. The size increase also ensures that the Verna has the most boot space in the segment with 528l and even the segment’s best width of 1765 mm which will offer more shoulder room than its competitors.

Launches of the Verna have always been greatly anticipated since they introduced the distinct-looking Fluidic Verna in 2011 and this is no different. From the front and rear, the all-new Verna bears only a little resemblance to its predecessor. Its long swooping lines are EV-esque with an LED setup that almost spans the entire width of the car. The Verna features front AC vents that are integrated into the dashboard design and a segment 1st of heated and ventilated front seats. The center console also houses the climate control knobs which double up as the infotainment controls, which is one set of controls that can be toggled to regulate the climate controls or use the infotainment system. Some other features available are Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist Control, Front parking sensors, and an electrochromic mirror.

Hyundai has fitted the all-new Verna with a brand new 2-spoke steering wheel that has never made it to any Hyundai model previously. It houses multi-function buttons with haptic feedback to give the driver functionality while not taking their hands off the wheel. The driver’s unit can display turn-by-turn navigation with the option to select from 10+ regional languages apart from English and Korean.

The new Hyundai Verna features a large 10.25-inch color TFT MID Infotainment screen for audio and navigation. This infotainment unit offers Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Valet mode, and even over-the-air updates for the system. This unit also supports voice commands in a mix of Hindi and English for functions like switching on the AC, opening the Sunroof, activating the ventilated seats, and much more.

In terms of connected Car Tech, Hyundai is offering new Verna owners 3 years of free Bluelink subscription that includes Auto crash notifications, SOS calls, Stolen Vehicle Immobilization, geofencing, and even a monthly health report to name a few.

New Hyundai Verna: Safety

The all-new Verna will come with 6-Airbags, all 4 disc brakes, and ABS with EBD as standard for all variants on sale while sitting on McPherson strut type suspension in the front and torsion beam axle with a vertical shock absorber in the rear.

Just like the new Honda City, The Verna too is offering ADAS for some variants. The Verna will have front and rear radar detectors along with a front camera which is not offered by competitors. The ADAS supports the driver with features like Forward Collision Warning and Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane-keep warning and assist blind spot warning, and even a safe exit warning to make sure that you don’t get run over when you get out of your car.

New Hyundai Verna: Variants, engines, colors and mileage

The all-new Verna will be available in 4 trims, EX, S, SX, and SX (O), and 7 color options, Typhoon Silver, Fiery Red, Starry Night, Titan Grey, Abyss Black, Atlas White, and Tellurian Brown.

The all-new Hyundai Verna has 2 engines on offer, the first being a modest 1.5l MPi Petrol engine that is naturally aspirated and delivers 115hp & 143.8 Nm. It is offered with a 6-speed Manual and an Intelligent Variable Transmission IVT) with Hyundai claiming a mileage of 18.6 kmpl (MT) and 19.6 kmpl (IVT).

Hyundai also offers a sportier 1.5 l Turbo GDi Petrol that churns out 160hp & 253 Nm. This can be mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7 Speed DCT with paddle shifters. While this engine is more powerful, Hyundai also claims that it will be more efficient than the naturally aspirated powertrains with mileage figures of 20 kmpl(MT) and 20.6 kmpl (DCT). Hyundai is not offering a diesel engine engine with the Verna.

These power figures are class-leading when compared to the VW Virtus, Skoda Slavia, and even the Honda City. So it wasn’t surprising that some dealers revealed that this was the most booked model when Hyundai announced bookings earlier in February. The turbo GDi also comes with 2 exclusive color options, Atlas White with black roof and Fiery Red with black roof.

The all-new Hyundai Verna will be produced at Hyundai’s Chennai plant. Apart from being sold in India, India will also be an export hub for the Korean manufacturer.
