This is the largest bodystyle on the Defender in India; is only luxury SUV with eight seater capacity.

Land Rover has launched the Defender 130 in India – the third bodystyle for the off-roader – thereby completing the three-pronged model line-up of 90, 110 and 130, with the first two being on sale since 2020. Available in HSE and X trims, the new Land Rover Defender 130 has been priced between Rs 1.30 crore-1.41 crore (ex-showroom, India), and is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 130 is the longest variant in the Defender line-up and, crucially, comes with a three-row layout with seating for up to eight people.

Land Rover Defender 130: exterior details

The Defender 130 adds 340mm behind the rear axle of the Defender 110, which means both SUVs are identical up until the C-pillar, including the wheelbase. However, the Defender 130 has a much longer rear overhang, which reduces the departure angle of the SUV to 28.5deg from the 110’s 40deg. Besides the additional length, there’s nothing else that tells the 130 apart from its smaller siblings as all versions of the Defender have identical styling cues.

Land Rover Defender 130: interior and features

The biggest talking point of the Defender 130’s interior is that it accommodates a new two-three-three seating layout, making it the only luxury SUV that can seat more than seven occupants. The three rows in the eight-seat SUV are arranged in a stadium format, whereby the middle and rearmost rows are slightly elevated – to enhance forward visibility.

Access to the third row is via a sliding and folding middle row, and Land Rover claims three adults can be seated in the third row in relative comfort. There is a second sunroof, too, so third row passengers get additional light, and four-zone air conditioning can be equipped as an option.

The extra length also makes for a huge, 2,516-litre boot space with the two rows folded down. That’s 953 litres more than the 110, with its second row folded down.

As for features, the 130 carries over all that is already offered on the 90 and the 110. This includes a 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest Pivi-Pro software, a fully digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, wireless charging, a Meridian audio system, 14-way electrically adjustable front seats, a 360-degree surround camera, matrix LED headlights and 20-inch wheels.

Land Rover Defender 130: powertrain options

Under the hood, the Defender 130 gets two engine options in India: a 400hp, 550Nm, 3.0-litre, six-cylinder petrol engine (P400), and a 300hp, 650Nm, 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, diesel mill (D300). Both engines get mild-hybrid assistance and come mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, with power being sent to all four wheels as standard. The Defender 130 also gets air suspension as standard, as does the Defender 110.

Land Rover Defender 130: rivals

The closest rivals to the Defender 130 in India are the BMW X7 (Rs 1.22 crore-1.25 crore) and the Mercedes-Benz GLS (Rs 1.19 crore-1.21 crore). The Defender is the largest of them and has more seating capacity, but it is also the most expensive.
