The Bentayga EWB replaces the Mulsanne sedan as the marque’s new flagship.
British luxury carmaker Bentley has launched the new Bentayga extended wheelbase in India priced from Rs 6 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). The SUV is also available in two enhanced specifications – Azure and First Edition. Sitting at the very top of Bentayga’s line-up, it is also the marque’s new flagship model, a status previously held by the Mulsanne sedan which was discontinued in 2020.
- India-spec Bentayga EWB gets only the V8 engine
- Not available in seven-seat option
- Rivals the Rolls Royce Cullinan
The Bentayga EWB’s wheelbase is longer by 180mm, with all the added space concentrated for the rear-seat passenger compartment. It is powered by a twin-turbo V8 petrol engine and receives subtle cosmetic changes.
Bentley Bentayga EWB: comfort and features
With the extended wheelbase model, the focus is clearly on the chauffeur-driven clientele. Buyers can choose between 4- and 5-seat layouts and a new ‘4+1’ option that puts a small jump seat between two larger rear seats. Despite it being longer, Bentley is not offering a seven-seat option with the Bentayga EWB, while the option is available on the standard Bentayga.
The Bentayga EWB, in its Airline Seat specification, comes with the new kind of climate seat which senses an occupant’s body temperature and surface humidity, and adjusts the ambient temperature and airflow accordingly. Additionally, it also gets postural adjustment which makes minor adjustments to occupants’ seating position and pressure points for greater comfort.
The backseats can also recline by up to 40 degrees and the front passenger seat can be extended forward for even more space. The Bentayga EWB also gets deployable footrests and heated and cooled rear armrests. Rear seat occupants can control a variety of the rear-seat functions via a dedicated handheld touchscreen. Plus, the rear doors are power assisted.
There are a number of new, plush trim options: an intricate kind of diamond quilting, a perforation pattern for the doors that is backlit by LEDs and a separate ionisation system for the rear seats.
Changes to the exterior are minimum and include a new vertically slatted grille, new polished 22-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels.
Bentley Bentayga EWB: technical details
For now, the Bentayga EWB comes to India only with a 550hp, 4.0-litre V8 engine. Internationally, the long wheelbase Bentayga is also available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. With the 4.0-litre engine, the SUV can go from 0-100 in 4.6 seconds and has a top-speed of 290kph.
The Bentayga EWB gets rear-wheel steering which reduces the SUV’s turning circle significantly and also improves the high-speed stability. Despite the extra length, the EWB’s turning circle of 11.8m is actually 0.6m tighter than the standard wheelbase model’s.
Bentley Bentayga EWB: rivals
With an approximate price tag of Rs 6 crore, the closest rival to the Bentayga EWB is the Rolls-Royce Cullinan (Rs 6.95 crore). However, the Cullinan is only offered with a single wheelbase. The Bentayga EWB also takes on the likes of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS and the higher-spec Range Rover LWB. However, both these SUVs cost significantly less than the Bentley.
