A second update to the Renegade brings more features, better engines and some bits shared with the Compass.

Jeep has unveiled a second facelift for the popular Renegade SUV. The updated model will first go on sale in Brazil, followed by other markets. The Renegade is currently Jeep’s smallest SUV globally and has been around since 2014. The latest update brings a few cosmetic changes to the exterior and more equipment on the inside. We take a closer look.

  • Jeep evaluated the Renegade for an India launch, but the plan was shelved

2022 Jeep Renegade facelift: what’s new on the outside

Cosmetic updates on the 2022 Renegade facelift are quite subtle. Up front, the updated SUV gets a slimmer grille and revised headlamps with turn indicators and LED daytime running lamp signatures integrated within the headlamps. It also gets a new look for the front bumper with beefier cladding and rectangular fog lamps that are positioned higher than before.

While the Renegade remains largely unchanged in profile, the rear has been updated with new graphics for the tail-lamps and a restyled bumper with a prominent faux skid plate and narrower lights at the corners. It also gets a new dual-tone design for its alloy wheels.

On the interior of the facelift, there aren’t many changes to the overall design and layout. However, it has been updated with a new 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a new steering wheel that’s similar to the Compass, and a new 7.0-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system is also expected to run a new software. Incidentally, the climate control switchgear continues to be the same as the pre-facelift Compass in India.

2022 Jeep Renegade facelift: engine options

The Renegade facelift in Brazil has been unveiled with a T270 badge on its tailgate. That means it will be powered by a new 185hp, 270Nm, 1.3-litre T270 turbo-flex engine that runs on ethanol. In petrol guise, this engine is capable of producing 180hp.

Globally, the Renegade is available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations with a 6-speed manual gearbox is standard. Automatic gearbox options include a 6-speed and a 9-speed unit. Jeep also offers a range of petrol and diesel engine options on the Renegade, depending on the market.

Jeep Renegade for India

Back in 2018, Autocar India had exclusively reported that Jeep was planning to launch the Renegade in India sometime this year. The 4.2-meter-long Renegade would have been positioned between Jeep’s upcoming sub-4m SUV and the Compass that’s already on sale. Incidentally, the Renegade also shares its Small Wide 4X4 platform with the Compass in India.

However, plans to introduce the Renegade were shelved as the SUV was turning out to be more expensive than its rivals and too close to the Compass, which was still new to the market. There is no news on the Renegade coming to our shores anytime soon, however, Jeep has its hands full with as many as three SUV launches planned this year.
