DFDS, the shipping and logistics company, has ordered another 25 FM heavy electric vehicles from Volvo Trucks, taking the total to 125.

Delivery is scheduled to start in Q4 2022. The new trucks will be used in the DFDS logistics system in Europe.

“We hope such investments will increase the demand for green infrastructure [products] across Europe,” said Niklas Andersson, the DFDS head of logistics.

The vehicles can be driven up to 500km (300 miles) during a work day with a fast top-up charge.

The FM Electric has a gross combination weight of up to 44 tons and can be charged both overnight at the home depot and via high power fast charging en route.

Volvo Trucks started serial production of electric trucks in 2019 and now offers models  including the VNR sold in North America.

Of the electric trucks (16 tonnes and heavier) registered in Europe so far this year, the manufacturer claims market share of 40%.
