General Motors said it was restructuring its information technology department into two groups: a digital business software team and global IT as part of a goal of growing software services revenue to US$20bn to $25bn a year by 2030.
Stacy Lynett was named VP of digital business software, reporting to chief digital officer Edward Kummer who took up the role in October.
Lynett heads a newly formed and growing group responsible for technology strategy and software product development for customers. The role will expand to support global customer and dealer systems.
Fred Killeen was appointed VP of global information technology and chief information officer, reporting to GM chair and CEO Mary Barra. Killeen heads the global IT group supporting GM’s global business.
“The new structure and dual operating model will enable GM to fully leverage its strong foundation in IT capability, talent and resources, as well as reduce complexity and improve speed,” Barra said.
Killeen’s team will focus on global back office IT support while, for Lynett’s team, software is the business, including technology strategy and development of software products and services for customers. Both groups will continue to collaborate on driving innovation.
Killeen was previously chief information security officer and chief technology officer, GM IT.
Killeen was CTO for GM IT from 2005 and also chief information security officer from 2018.
Killeen’s background includes 16 years with Hewlett-Packard and software development at Motorola.
