The seventh-gen Volkswagen Polo GTI has been partially revealed via a sketch, ahead of its world debut in June this year.
- New Polo GTI will be based on the recently updated Polo
- Will get multiple driver assistance features
- Will also get the new MIB3 infotainment system
New Volkswagen Polo GTI: design
The sketch image was revealed ahead of Volkswagen’s annual GTI weekend at Lake Wörthersee, which was set to be held from May 12-15. However, the event was cancelled for the second year in a row due to the pandemic. The sketch shows that the new GTI will gain an updated, sharper design, with an LED strip dominating its front above an updated grille.
Volkswagen says the new Polo GTI, which will be revealed at the end of June, will provide “exceptional driving dynamics in combination with exceptional everyday usability” and represents “pure dynamism and expressive design.” LED headlights will be offered as standard, and the car will receive a redesigned tailgate and the brand’s new IQ Light technology.

The company has also revealed that the new Polo will receive several of Volkswagen’s optional driver assistance systems, including Travel Assist and Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features. As is it the highest specification of Polo available, it’s expected that the Polo GTI will receive these features as standard.
The latest iteration of Volkswagen’s MIB3 touchscreen infotainment system will also be carried over from the Golf, as will its new touch-sensitive sliders for controlling the interior temperature.
New Volkswagen Polo GTI: engine and powertrain
The previous Polo GTI was powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 203hp, with limited-rum later models producing 210hp. It comes exclusively with a dual-clutch (DSG) automatic gearbox. Specification details of the new model will be confirmed at the unveiling.
New Volkswagen Polo GTI: will it come to India?
There is no news of the latest VW Polo GTI coming to India anytime soon. However, Volkswagen India did sell the facelifted fifth-gen Polo GTI here, from about 2016 to 2020.
