The Renault Kiger has been updated for the 2022 model year, with prices now starting from Rs 5.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). For the additional money, Renault has also thrown in a few cosmetic updates along with new convenience features.

  • Higher variants cruise control and wireless charging
  • Kiger RXT(O) also gets the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine

2022 Renault Kiger: what’s new?

For 2022, the Kiger gets a new silver skid plate for the front bumper along with a new chrome garnish for the tail gate. Turbo-petrol variants also get a new ‘Turbo’ decal over the door claddings and the 16-inch alloys get new red accents. The Kiger also gets new funky dual-tone mustard yellow with black roof colour option. This colour is also offered on the Triber MPV.

The biggest additions are on the features front. The Kiger now gets cruise control and wireless phone charging, although Renault hasn’t specified from which variant it will be offered. So far, wireless charging was only available as an optional extra with the Smart+ pack, while cruise control was missing altogether. Kiger’s rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and even the Maruti Vitara Brezza were already available with both or either one of the features.

The interior also gets a red accent on the dashboard and a new quilted pattern for the seats with red contrast stitching. Additionally, Renault has also made the PM2.5 air filter standard across the range.

Additionally, the RXT(O) variant launched last year as part of Renault’s 10th anniversary celebrations in India was so far only available with the 1.0-litre NA petrol engine. Now, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, with both manual and automatic gearboxes, are also available with the RXT(O) variant.

2022 Renault Kiger: engine options

Under the skin, the Kiger remains mechanically unchanged. That means it continues with the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 72hp and 96Nm of torque, along with a 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine making 100hp and 160Nm. The former is available with either a 5-speed manual and or an AMT gearbox. Meanwhile, the turbo-petrol engine comes with either the 5-speed manual or CVT automatic gearboxes; the torque figure drops to 152Nm when paired to the CVT unit.

2022 Renault Kiger: rivals in India

Sitting in the hotly contested compact SUV segment, the Kiger rivals the likes of Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Toyota Urban Cruiser. The latter two will soon receive a major update as well, stepping up considerably on the equipment front. You can read more about it here.
