2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk facelift priced at Rs 30.72 lakh

The Trailhawk is a more hardcore version of the regular SUV, and comes with a diesel 4×4 auto powertrain, with some off-road focused enhancements.

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk has been re-introduced to the Compass line-up in our market. The 2022 Trailhawk carries an introductory pricing of Rs 30.72 lakh, which is a markup of Rs 1.38 lakh over the top-spec Model S variant of the regular Compass that is priced at Rs 29.34 lakh (all-prices, ex-showroom, India). The updated Trailhawk gets the cosmetic and feature upgrades from the Compass facelift that was launched last year, in addition to its customary off-road focused gear.

  • Trailhawk based on Model S variant of regular Compass
  • Gets sharply cut bumpers, raised suspension, ‘Rock’ mode and 20:1 crawl ratio
  • Comes with 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine, 9-speed auto gearbox and 4×4 system

2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk facelift: design, feature updates

The updated Trailhawk wears the new headlamps and grille from the Compass facelift, but gets more sharply cut bumpers for better approach and departure angles. Other traits that mark out the Trailhawk as the more serious off-roader include a bonnet decal, smaller 17-inch alloys with a set of 225/65 R17 “all season” tyres, raised ride height, scuff plates, a red tow hook at the rear, ‘Trail Rated’ badges on the fenders and the Trailhawk logo on the hatch.

On the inside, the 2022 Trailhawk sees a marked improvement compared to the older version and adopts the facelifted Compass’ modern dashboard layout. However, contrast red stitching and ‘Trailhawk’ logos on the seats tell you that this is the special version of the SUV.

A 10.1-inch touchscreen takes centre stage, and there’s also a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, LED projector headlamps, LED fog lamps, auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror, rain-sensing wipers, 360-deg camera and a panoramic sunroof (now standard).

More importantly, the Trailhawk now gets ventilated and powered front seats, with memory function for the driver’s side. Curiously, powered seats were an omission on the previous Trailhawk, even though they were available on the standard SUV.

2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk facelift: other off-road focused enhancements

In addition to the tweaks on the exterior that make the Trailhawk better at off-roading, there are some nifty features under the hood that enhance its abilities. As before, the drive mode select on the Trailhawk gets an additional ‘Rock’ mode over the regular Compass. And then there is the 20:1 crawl ratio that can make attacking difficult terrain easier.

Jeep also says that the Trailhawk’s raised suspension gives it a water wading depth of 483mm.

The Trailhawk continues to be offered with a 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine. A 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive are standard too.

In comparison, the regular Compass also comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and 4×2 combination for the diesel. And then there’s the 163hp, 1.4-litre turbo petrol that gets either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT auto gearbox, with 4×2 drive.

Jeep India’s plans for 2022

Having launched the updated Trailhawk, Jeep is now focused on introducing the three-row Meridian SUV by May. It also plans on commencing the local assembly of the Grand Cherokee in India this year.
