2021 Toyota Camry facelift: What’s new?

The mid-cycle update for the Camry focuses mainly on cosmetic changes to make the car look fresh and also bring it in line with its rivals, as far as tech and features go. The updated Camry gets a slightly reprofiled bumper, with new design for its inserts that gives it a look that’s similar to the ones seen on the latest-gen Corolla sedan (not sold in India).  Additionally, the 2021 Camry gets new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheel designs and a few minor cosmetic tweaks to its exteriors. At the back, the new Camry gets restyled LED tail-lamp inserts.

On the inside, apart from a few tweaks to the interior bits, the 2021 Camry gets a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that replaces the older 8.0-inch unit. Toyota claims the updated infotainment software has helped improve input response times.

Standard safety kit for the Euro-spec model includes lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, road sign assist, as well as intersection turn assist, which detects vehicles or pedestrians crossing the car’s path when it’s turning at a junction.

The facelift carries forward the previous hybrid powertrain. A 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and an electric motor send power to the front wheels via a CVT automatic gearbox. The hybrid system’s total output is rated at 218hp.

2021 Toyota Camry facelift India launch

The current, pre-facelift Camry on sale in India was introduced in January 2019. Toyota Kirloskar had hiked the Camry’s prices in July by Rs 1.14 lakh, which sees the Japanese brand’s flagship sedan currently priced at Rs 39.02 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Camry facelift is likely to come to India next year, though there’s no confirmation from the carmaker as to exactly when it’ll arrive. The Toyota Camry Hybrid goes up against the Skoda Superb in our market.
